MPAC to host free Community Day

    In conjunction with the annual Morristown Festival on the Green, Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC) will present Community Day, an afternoon of free events at the Theatre, Sunday, Sept. 28from noon to 5 p.m.

    The day will include live concerts, theatre tours, art gallery demonstrations, giveaways, activities for children and special incentives for joining the theatre's membership base.

    "The Morristown Festival on the Green annually brings tens of thousands of people to enjoy all that Morristown has to offer," says Allison Larena, President and CEO, Mayo Performing Arts Center. "In addition to visiting all of the booths and activities at the Green, we invite people to come to MPAC's Community Day to enjoy terrific world music and learn about all the Theatre has to offer."

    MPAC will also have a booth at the Green and, in conjunction with Morris Tourism and the Morristown Partnership, bring the New Jersey Hall of Fame Mobile Museum to the Festival.

    The lineup of music includes:
    12 p.m.: Taikoza — Japanese drums

    1 p.m.: Eco Del Sur — South American music

    2 p.m.: MPAC Teen Performing Arts Company

    3 p.m.: Conroy Warren — Caribbean music

    4 p.m.: Didge Project — Australian didgeridoo

    Theatre representatives will offer tours and information about upcoming events, the box office will be open, there will be activities for children and families, and a few surprises. The Art Gallery will be open, and a meet the artist reception for the New Jersey Photography Forum will take place from 4 to 7 p.m.

    The MPAC Membership Department will provide special gifts for anyone who joins as a member on September 28. Current MPAC members are invited to stop by the Starlight Room to enjoy free snacks and more.

    In case of rain, concerts will be moved indoors.
