Local actor Paul Meacham performed readings of the Christmas Carol on Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Black Dog Bookstore in Newton. Meacham cleverly played all the story's main characters in the reading which were performed at 11 am and again at 2 p.m.
"The Christmas Carol is a ghost story from beginning to end which helps Scrooge to mend his evil ways," Meacham explained to the audience.
"Every idiot who goes about with Merry Christmas on his lips should be boiled in his own pudding and buried with a stake of holly through his heart," Meacham dramatized, as well as other famous lines. The reading concluded with the lighthearted "God Bless Us Everyone".
The Black Dog Bookstore is located on Spring Street in Newton. Shop owner Catherine Cassidy also reminded patrons of a 1 pm reading of The Night Before Christmas by Betsey Dewey.
