Veterans ID bill passes committee

TRENTON — Veterans will find it easier to obtain county identification cards under legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Parker Space and advanced by the Assembly military committee. The bill, also sponsored by Assemblymen Anthony M. Bucco and Chris A. Brown, passed with a 6-0 vote.
“Identification cards issued by counties are the keys to accessing many of the services earned by our veterans,” said Space (R-Sussex, Warren, Morris). “This bill means more former military men and women will benefit from the help and programs that are available. The hardest part should be leaving home to serve our country, not applying for the ID card.”
Veterans can qualify for cards with approved separation forms specified by all branches of the military. No longer will they be required to show DD-214 forms. The bill also opens the ID program to veterans who served in the National Guard in other states.
