    Straus publications recognized for journalism and advertising excellence

    The Advertiser-News honored for investigative reporting and feature writing


    Seven Straus News publication won a total of 11 media awards within the last week, including The Advertiser-News (North Edition), which was recognized for its investigative reporting and feature series work.

    The paper received two honorable mention awards from the national news organizations, The Local Media Association, for its Heroin in Sussex County Series; “one for investigative reporting and the other for feature series.

    In addition, Dirt Magazine and its editor Becca Tucker won awards from two different news organizations within the last week.

    The national Local Media Association recognized Dirt as a first-place winner in the Niche Publication category.

    In the Best Magazine category, The New York Press Association awarded Dirt second-place and gave it an honorable mention in the Niche Publication Category.

    The New York Press Association judges in the Magazine Category said in their comments about Dirt: “Very nice layouts. Good photography and interesting articles. The color palette throughout (screens, type etc) is consistent and appealing. My only complaint: the text is a bit too small and some of the paragraphs are too long. Overall, nicely done.”

    In the Niche Publication Category the judges wrote: “A wonderful, diverse snapshot of sustainability issues, an important and growing niche.”
