Brino, English have success on Paterson swim team

Sheri Brino from Wallkill Valley High School and Brittany English from High Point High School were both on the William Paterson University (Wayne, New Jersey) women’s swim team this winter.

Brino, a junior, competed in backstroke and distance freestyle events and English, a sophomore, competed in backstroke and freestyle events. Brino and English were both part of the William Paterson 400-yard freestyle relay team that placed fifth in the B Final of the Division III Metropolitan Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Rutgers University in Piscataway last month.

In dual meet competition, the Pioneers had an overall record of 11-5. Brino was honored as a Pioneer Of The Week in January and English was honored as a Pioneer Of The Week last month. Brino is listed as an English (Elementary Education) major and English is listed as a major in Communication Disorders.

Ryan Callahan from Wallkill Valley High School is a senior competing in the 174-pound weight class for the Princeton University (New Jersey) wrestling team this season. At the recent Eastern Inter-Collegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Tournament in Philadelphia, Pa., Callahan went 2-2 at 174 pounds. As a team, Princeton placed 12th out of 18 squads at the EIWA’s. Callahan finished the season with 17 victories. Cornell won the EIWA team championship.

Princeton finished the season with an overall dual meet record of 11-4 and they were 3-2 in the Ivy League.

Rebecca Hutsebaut (Vernon High School) was on the roster of the Drew University (Madison, New Jersey) women’s swim program this winter. Hutsebaut, a junior, was a competitor in breaststroke events. Drew placed sixth in the team scoring at the Landmark Conference Swimming and Diving Championships last month at Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Hutsebaut is an Elementary Education and Psychology major.

As a junior guard for the Ramapo College (New Jersey) men’s basketball program this winter, Keith Yearwood from Wallkill Valley High School played in four games. Ramapo had nine overall victories, six of which occurred in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners had a 6-5 record on their home court. Yearwood is a Business major.
