— Melting snow and ice in Sussex County continues to hamper scrimmages for spring sports and soggy fields make for unsafe playing conditions.

Despite cancellations and postponements a few schools managed to field scrimmages, which are utilized to gauge individual and team performance before the start of the regular season.

The Sussex County Technical High School Lady Mustangs, Newton High School Lady Braves and Pope John XXIII Lady Lions were among area teams to see action on the field.

Sussex County Technical took on Newton in girls varsity softball on Saturday, March 22. The scrimmage was played at Newton High School.

Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta, hosted North Warren Regional High School for lacrosse scrimmages on Monday, March 24.

The girls varsity and junior varsity teams participated.
