Wantage approves digital tax map

The Wantage Committee unanimously approved providing funding to complete a digital tax map on May 15.

The best quote Wantage got was from Harold Pellow and Associates for $72,000. The township will pay for the project this year and spread the cost out over the next 5 years at $14,400 a year to the tax payers. New Jersey budget law allows townships to do that for a tax-map project and it is called for a special five-year emergency appropriation.

The final hearing will be June 12..

The ordinance was labeled “an emergency appropriation” because the township did not budget for the project in advance.

The digital tax map will allow Wantage residents to access their tax information online. It also will be more efficient to update and use in the Wantage Town Hall offices.

If adopted, there will paper tax maps will be phased out.
