Glen Miller Orchestra offers unique jazz sound

NEWTON — The incomparable Glenn Miller Orchestra returns to the Newton Theatre on Sunday, July 27 at 3 p.m.

The quintessential Glenn Miller Orchestra has been entertaining audiences since the 1930s. With its unique jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time. The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year all around the world.

Formed in the 1930s by American musician, arranger, composer and bandleader Glenn Miller, who was one of the best-selling artists of the 30s and 40s, leading one of the best known big bands. Miller's notable and record-breaking recordings and top 10 hits include "In the Mood," "Moonlight Serenade," "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "A String of Pearls," "At Last," "(I've Got a Gal In) Kalamazoo," "Tuxedo Junction," and "Little Brown Jug."

Sadly, in 1944 while he was traveling to entertain U.S. troops in France during World War II, Glenn Miller's aircraft disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel and he was never seen again.
