The Sussex Borough Council on Tuesday, July 15, approved the appointment of Edward J. McNamimon of the firm McManimom, Scotland and Baumann, LLC, as a special attorney to represent the borough in the potential sale of the water and sewer utility.

He will be paid $215 per hour.
Four voted in favor: Council President Marina Krynicky, Councilman Bruce LaBar, Councilman Salvatore Lagattuta, and Councilwoman Georgeanna Stoll. Councilwoman Linda Masson and Councilwoman Annette Stendor voted against.

Mayor Jonathan Rose recused himself from the vote because of potential conflicts with his computer-consulting business: Farious Net Solutions.

Professional Engineering Services for the Lake Rutherford Dam

The council unanimously authorized the mayor to execute a contract with Civil Dynamics, Inc. for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and conceptual design for the Lake Rutherford Dam, not to exceed $32,430.

The borough received a letter from the dam safety commissioner and Rose said the borough is "out of time."

There are two parts to the proposal. The first part actual work will start in the beginning of next year.

Amend the piping size in order to save money

The council unanimously canceled upsizing the piping size from 4 inches to 8 eight inches within the Route 23 Project. The wording will change to “various improvements and purchases.” By maintaining the current 4-inch pipes, the borough will save around $50,000.

"We are very tight for money right now," Rose said.

The final reading of the amended ordinance will be Aug. 19.

    Willow Street improvements
After receiving five bids, the Council unanimously awarded Bob Viersma & Sons, Inc. of Allamuchy $214,485.50 for the improvements to the Willow Street Section II project.
