The Vernon Township Council introduced an ordinacne Monday night to acquire the former Special Services building, from the Vernon Township School District Board of Education.

The building, located at 294 Route 94, has been leased by the Board of Education for several years but finds that it no longer has use of the property. According to officials, the school board wants the township to take ownership of the building as it needs office space.

The building is currently being used by the Vernon Township Historical Society.

Council President Brian Lynch proposed the ordinance to acquire the property. The transfer of ownership of the property for the price of $1 would be contingent upon the ordinance passing.

The ordinance is scheduled to go to a public hearing on Monday, Aug. 8, and a vote is expected to take place immediately after.
