Families turn out for Highland Lakes Day

The bicycle decorating parade gets started.
Four-year-old Emma Heinzinger was the first girl to cross the finish line in the Age 5 and Under upside-down and backwards race.
Highland Lakes resident and Queen of the Highland Hatters chapter of the Red Hat Society volunteer Pat Wootton ended up laughing at the rather odd shapes of the cotton candy that she way trying to create for the kids.
Sebastian Tobin, 3, got a lot of attention with his balloon bike during the bicycle decorating parade.
VERNON — Hundreds of Highland Lakes residents turned out last Saturday for the annual Highland Lakes Family Day.
Events also included a quadrathlon, triathlon, sandcastle building, wacky relay races, a bicycle decorating parade, a baby parade, and much more.
The weather behaved long enough so that at the end of the day their fireworks display went off without a hitch and shook Wawayanda Mountain. Each year lakefront homeowners on the main lake invite their friends, neighbors, and family to enjoy the nighttime display from their docks, decks, and boats.
