    Ryan J. Pittenger, 31, formerly of Branchville was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous sbustance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a hypodermic syringe.

    Police said Pittenger happened upon the scene of an arrrest and attempted to flee, as police said he was the subject of an outstanding Superior Court warrant. Police said he was charged after a brief chase. Police said a further investigation revealed Pittenger to be in possession of a quantity of heroin and a hypodermic syringe.

    Pittenger was issued summons on the charges and was sent to the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility without bail.

    Harry Gratton, 27, of Newton was charged as the subject of an oustanding Superior Court warrant for violating the terms of his probation.

    Gratton was sent to the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility without bail.
