Library to celebrate 'Historic Deckertown'

| 23 Oct 2014 | 01:51

The history and life of Sussex Borough, which was originally named Deckertown, will be celebrated in a special program on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Sussex-Wantage Branch Library.

Presented by the Friends of the Sussex-Wantage Library, the program will include the debut of a new brochure entitled “Historic Deckertown.” The brochure, prepared by the Friends’ local history committee, includes a self-guided walking tour and map, old photos, and fascinating facts about the borough. Adding to this informative evening will be the showing of a movie made in the 1940s by local resident Bill Davis featuring the borough's shops, businesses, farms, schools, factories, and churches — plus a fireman's parade.

Copies of the brochure will be available at the program; a donation to defray printing costs will be greatly appreciated.

The program will be held in the library’s community room. Registration is not required. For further information, call the library at 973-875-3940.
