Warwick Rotarians join Lions in hosting Holiday Party

WARWICK — The Warwick Lions Club, along with Chosun Taekwondo Academy and Glenn and Susan Dickes, has hosted a holiday party for local children in need for a number of years.

The need has grown and many children had to be left out.

The Warwick Valley Rotary Club has stepped in so that many more children can enjoy this fun-filled event. Last year 80 children attended and this year it will be doubled to 160.

The event will take place Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Warwick Reformed Church.

What's involved
Children are invited through the Backpack Snack Attack Program, the Alamo and the Mustard Seed Ministry.

This party is unique because the children “shop” for gifts for their families and wrap them in addition to enjoying traditional party activities like games, refreshments and crafts.

A professional photographer takes a portrait of each child and there is a photo with Santa as well.

At the conclusion of the party, Santa presents each child with a gift bag containing pants, shirt, shoes, sox, hat, glove and toy that has been chosen just for them.

A $25 ShopRite gift card for their families is included for each child, compliments of Glenn and Susan Dickes.

Sponsors, support, donations
This event would not be possible without the generous support of the community. Sponsors are needed to donate $60 per child so volunteers can fill a gift bag for each with much needed clothing and shoes.

Donations of new gift items and toys for the “shop” are also appreciated.

Gift wrap supplies, baked goods on the day of event and new children’s clothes are also needed.

Checks to help with expenses may be made out to either Warwick Valley Rotary or Warwick Lions Club and mailed to Warwick Lions Club, PO BOX 208, Warwick, NY 10990.

Claire Gabelmann of the Warwick Lions Club is again directing the overall event planning with assistance from Rotarians Tina Buck and Deborah Giuliani.
