Hamburg art gallery offers “a lot of et cetera”

For Art Etc. owner Marshall Okin, opening the new Main Street, Hamburg business was about getting Sussex County culture jumpstarted.

“I was very surprised with how many artists are up here,” Okin said. “My goal is to support, sell and exhibit as much of their work as humanely possible.”

Before the Art Etc. gallery opened in October, Okin says, art enthusiasts looking to buy works from local artists had to commute. As with many Hamburg residents, Okin commuted hours every day to get to and from work.

“I know how tired people are of commuting,” he said.

Okin hopes the new full-time gallery, which is currently exclusively supporting local artists, will help ease the burden of these consumers.

In addition to the gallery, Art Etc. includes a gift store, custom framing shop, a fabrication shop and art restoration services.

“Right now, custom framing is the biggest part of our business,” Okin said.

With 13 years’ professional experience at the largest retail frame shop in New Jersey, Okin guarantees his customers will get the lowest price in the state on framing projects.

Art restoration
Art often wears over time, Okin says, and people often aren’t aware that it can be restored. With multiple expert certifications, including art materials, oils and acrylics, Okin says restoring heirloom art pieces is “always a challenge, and always something new,” but also it is “probably the most fun that I have at work.”
