— The Sussex County Miners earned the first win in club history on Monday as they topped the New Jersey Jackals 4-1.

The victory took place in the Miners’ home opener at Skylands Park.

Sussex County took the lead in the bottom of the third inning as CF Reggie Abercrombie drove in Johnny Bladel with a ground out and then added to that lead three innings later as a pair of Miners – Abercrombie and Devin Thaut – scored on errors.

New Jersey plated their only run in the top of the seventh as Tony Caldwell knocked in Mark Threlkeld on a bounce out to the shortstop.

But the Miners responded in the bottom half of the seventh as Bladel pushed Cory Morales across the plate to push the lead back out to three runs.

Morales and Thaut each had two hits for the Miners and Peter Mooney and Jared Schlehuber each had two hits for the Jackals.
