Nitch, Snook enter council race

Edward Nitch and Edward Snook recently submitted a petition to run for one of two open seats on the Township Council in the Nov. 3 general election.

Nitch said his petition has more than 200 signatures on it.

Nitch is a 23-year resident of Vernon and is a senior network engineer with Matthijssen, Inc. in East Hanover for the past 24 years. He is a certified network engineer and security systems administrator focusing on healthcare and HIPAA compliance. Nitch as served the last eight years on the Pleasant Valley Lake Board of Trustees as vice president, trustee and webmaster, as well as the last five years on the Executive Board of Directors of Vernon Youth Soccer, where he currently serves as president. He has also been a head coach and assistant coach to numerous soccer teams in Vernon.

Nitch and his wife, Lisa, currently reside in the Pleasant Valley Lake section of town with their three children; Rachel 19, Jason, 16, and Emily, 14.

Snook informed the Advertiser-News North on Monday, Aug. 24, that he submitted his petitions to enter the council race. Incumbent Dan Kadish and Sandy Ooms also have submitted petitions for council. Councilman Brian Lynch said he will not seek re-election.

Mayoral RaceGary Martinsen recently submitted petitions for Vernon Township mayor on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Martinsen said his petition received 225 signatures of the 159 signatures of registered township voters.

Martinsen is one of three challengers challenging incumbent Mayor Victor Marotta in the Nov. 3 general election. Former Mayor Sally Rinker and former Councilman Harry Shortway also have filed petitions in he mayor's race.
