The Friends of High Point State Park are sponsoring their annual Bait and Boat Festival on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at High Point State Park.

The Friends of High Point State Park will be on the beach at Lake Marcia as they say goodbye to summer with a day of fishing and boating. This special event is the one day of the year that boats are allowed on Lake Marcia.

Participants may borrow one of the Friends' kayaks or canoes for a short paddle or bring their own non-motorized boat and spend the day exploring. Afternoon activities include boat races; fishing and sandcastle contests; pond study with the Park Naturalist; and crafts.

An early evening campfire on the beach with s'mores will conclude the festivities. Pack a picnic and bring the whole family for a day of adventure at High Point State Park. The event is free, but a suggested donation of $5 per family is appreciated. All persons fishing, age 16 or older, must have and display a valid NJ State fishing license. Bring your own fishing equipment. All boaters must wear a PFD while on the lake.

Participants bringing their own non-motorized boats must stop by the beach for instructions before putting boats in the water. Event rain date is Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015. To learn more about the Friends of High Point State Park and their events, visit www.friendshighpointstatepark.blogspot.com.
