Newton Theatre celebrates anniversary

NEWTON — The Newton Theatre celebrated its fourth anniversary on Friday, Sept. 11.

The theatre debuted as a performing arts venue in September of 2011 with a sold-out show by Todd Rundgren.

Theatre patrons, staff and volunteers were treated to cake and a champagne toast, prior to the Jeffrey Gaines and Freedy Johnston concert.

In four years, The Newton Theatre has hosted such luminaries as Judy Collins, Lyle Lovett, Kansas, Arlo Guthrie, Jon Anderson, Jim Breuer and The Glenn Miller Orchestra. Movies also have returned with an all-new digital cinema and sound system. Coming in year five are Herman’s Hermits, George Winston, Steve Hackett and David Cook and will see the return of Don McLean, Bernie Williams, From Good Homes and Disney’s Choo Choo Soul.

The historic Newton Theatre, located at 234 Spring Street in Newton, NJ, was founded in 1924.
