On Friday, seven members of the Vernon United Methodist Church’s youth group spent the night in makeshift corrugated box shelters to raise funds and awareness of the county’s homeless population.

According to youth group leader, Davida Schnebelen, the children raised $320 with half the funds earmarked for the church’s food pantry and half going to Family Promise of Sussex County. The individual raising the most money was her daughter Kailee, who collected $130 toward the total raised.

The church’s food pantry is open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Their shelves empty quickly and donations of non perishables food items are always welcome. They may be brought to the church during office hours (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 1p.m.) or on Sunday during church hours.

To find out what food items need replenishing, you may contact the church office at 973-764-3188 or admin@vernonmethodist.org.
