A dog day in Vernon

Vernon Animal Control held a dedication to the addition of the Warren Burgess Animal Shelter on Sept. 22, appropriately on what would have been the namesake's 88th birthday.

The work on the addition commenced on Sept. 22, and was constructed entirely by township DPW workers. The addition helps Animal Control staff serve the public more efficiently, and the old office space was converted to accommodate more animals.

"This event was a great way to celebrate our 40th anniversary in Vernon Township, and the addition was a win-win for everyone, including our furry friends," said Tom Maellaro, Animal Control officer after the event.

Mayor Vic Marotta cut the ribbon and shared, "the new addition to the Warren Burgess Animal Control Center is an example of how teamwork produces results for the people of Vernon and their pets. All of the people involved in bringing this project to a successful conclusion should be recognized and congratulated."

Vernon Animal Control is open weekdays 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Call 973.764.7751 with any questions or for adoption information.
