A family workshop for coping with divorce

In the most recent 2012 New Jersey statistics, one out of every three people per thousand will experience a divorce.

Going through a divorce can be one of the most stressful events a person can encounter in his or her lifetime.

Due to many studies done over the years to understand the effects of divorce on children and families, the available information can be overwhelming.

On Monday, Oct. 19 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Kristy Lavin, local child and family therapist, will conduct "Helping Kids Cope with Divorce," a workshop for parents and caregivers of children that are struggling as the result of a divorce.

Divorce is brought to a different level of complexity when children are involved, and create an enormous amount of stress financially and emotionally.

Lavin has worked with children, adults, and families.

The workshop will provide practical resources, useful strategies and pertinent tips for parents and caregivers to navigate successfully through divorce.

This workshop is being held at The Center for Prevention, 65 Newton-Sparta Road in Newton.

Registration fee is $10, and refreshments will be served.

To register, visit www.centerforprevention.org or call Tina Aue at 973-383-4787, ext.239.
