A rainy ‘rondy’ on Wawayanda Mountain

While the rest the folks in northwest New Jersey were preparing for heavy rains followed by a possible encounter with Hurricane Joaquin, members of the Garden State Black Powder Association (GSBPA) spent the entire week trying to keep warm and dry in their canvas tents atop Wawayanda Mountain.

Although the group usually holds its annual rendezvous at Barrett Road’s High Breeze Farm the week immediately preceding Columbus Day, they chose last week instead due to conflicting scheduling problems.

Despite an awful week of rain and chilling winds, the group stuck to their guns and shivered the week away, while still having fun. After all, who needs a generator when you don’t even have a light bulb?

GSBPA members and their families were dressed as Americans did prior to the 1840s. Activities included practice with bows and arrows, shooting muzzle-loading rifles, and chopping lots and lots of firewood.
