Do some want VFW to close?

After reading many comments regarding the sewer connection fees for the VFW in Vernon Township I am starting to think the Township Council and some people who have never served our county in the military would like to see the VFW closed.

The MUA is under the township council control, see Section 6.1 of the MUA regulations which states, or when the governing body deems it to be in the best interest of the VTMUA to so relax or waive any such provision of this chapter. The MUA is not the governing body of our township.

The best interest of the MUA. What about the best interest of the citizens and business owners in Vernon Township? Businesses and people are leaving Vernon at a high rate. Count the empty stores and the vacant houses.

As pointed out by a former commissioner of the MUA the VTMUA's early adoption of a rarely used, often dysfunctional and outdated billing method called EDUs . There is no way the VFW uses 1,125 gallons of water a day. This type of extremely unrealistic water usage will drive more businesses and people out of Vernon.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8441 is a nonprofit organization made up of private citizens that received an Honorable Discharge from our military services and served our county while being in a war zone. The VFW and its members have and continue to provide many community services and assist the older veterans in need. However, we do not use 1,125 gallons of water a day and we cannot afford a connection fee of $45,000, if this does not change we will have to close.
