Vernon Cyclones sweep doubleheader

    The Vernon Cyclones traveled to Saint Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, NJ, on Sunday, Oct. 25, to take on the Green Knights in a doubleheader.

    Justin Lavorini pitched game one for the Cyclones and was on fire as he held the Green Knights scoreless and let up only one hit after four inning. In the fifth inning, the Cyclones led off batter JT Franetovich singled to left-center, Brandon Lavorini then singles up the middle followed by a base hit to left from George Gutierrez. With bases loaded, Paul Parigi singles to right scoring Franetovich to give the Cyclones the first run of the game. Brandon Lavorini was thrown out at home on a ground ball back to the pitcher from Justin Lavorini and Gutierrez advanced to third. Brandon Moser hits a deep fly ball to center field, Gutierrez tags up and scores giving the Cyclones a 2-0 lead over the Green Knights. Justin Lavorini finished the game strong pitching only a two-hitter to shutout the Green Knights and giving the Cyclones a 2-0 win in game one.

    In game two, Matt Bell started on the mounded for the Cyclones and was also on fire that day. The Cyclones being home team in game two took an early lead in the second inning when Brandon Lavorini led the inning off with a base hit to left and stole second, Gutierrez singled, moving Lavorini to third, Justin Lavorini then hit a ground ball to short the Green Knights try to turn two, Gutierrez is out at second and Justin Lavorini beats the throw to first and Brandon Lavorini scores from third. Brandon Moser then singles on a swing bunt advancing Justin Lavorini to third. Noah Franetovich then hits a slow grounder to the right of the pitcher and Justin Lavorini beats the throw to home giving the Cyclone a 2-0 lead after two innings. \

    Matt Bell pitched four shutout innings, letting up no hits before handing the ball over to Max Rodriguez to close out the game. Rodriguez also came out strong to finish the game letting up only one hit and the save for the Cyclones 2-0 win over the Green Knights.
