Stukenborg, Chick lead Steven's Tech field hockey

    Emily Stukenborg and Emma Chick, both from Wallkill Valley Regional High School, were both on the roster of the Steven’s Institute of Technology’s field hockey program this year.

    Stukenborg, a junior goalie, played in 20 games and started 18 of them through Oct, 28. She made 119 saves and had two shutouts in goal during that span and her goals against average through Oct. 28 was 1.82.

    Through Oct. 28, Chick, a sophomore midfielder, played in 19 games and started one of them for Steven’s. She had a goal and an assist for the Ducks.

    After 17 games, the Ducks had an overall record of 13-7 and they were 7-3 on their home field. In the Empire 8 Conference, they had a mark of 5-3. The Ducks won the Empire 8 Conference Tournament held in Ithaca, N.Y., with victories over Saint John Fisher College (2-1 overtime, semifinals) and Ithaca College (4-1, finals).

    Stukenborg is listed as a chemical engineering major and Chick is listed as an environmental engineering major.

    Bayley Hickey and Gunther Wassong, from High Point High School and Dan Tomzick from Wallkill Valley High School are all members of the William Paterson University football team this season.

    Wassong, a sophomore, is listed as a linebacker and Hickey, also a sophomore is an offensive lineman. Tomzick, a freshman defensive lineman, played in each of the first seven games of the season and had 12 tackles (four solo) and 1.5 sacks.

    Through seven regular season games, the Pioneers had an overall record of 2-7 with a 1-3 record on their home field. They also had a victory in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). On Nov. 7, William Paterson has an NJAC contest scheduled at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. The Pioneers are scheduled to conclude the regular season with a home NJAC challenge versus Wesley College on Nov. 14.

    Wassong is listed a history major, Hickey is listed as a physical education major and Tomzick is listed as a sports management major.

    Louis Bustamante from Wallkill Valley High School is a sophomore on the roster of the Seton Hall University men’s cross country team this fall. At the Saint John’s fall cross-country festival in Queens, New York, Bustamante placed fourth overall. Seton Hall won the team crown at the event.

    On Nov. 13, the Pirates are scheduled to compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in Princeton.
