Letter writer deceived public

I believe Dan Borstad has deceived and misled the public in his letter to the editor.

He said Mayor Vic Marotta reduced the fire department budgets by $5,000. He said the mayor “attempted to deceive the public when he called for a private meeting between himself and the fire departments.”

These statements are false. The fire department budgets were not reduced. In fact, they got $15,000 more over the years PLUS new radio equipment that was tied into a special benefit for them.

I believe Borstad exploits the public with emotionally charged statements that seem true but are completely false. No one has sent the departments out into the streets to beg for money to meet day-to-day expenses. There is no danger to the departments because of a “shortage of funds.”

Without a doubt, we thank our volunteers for their dedication and service. They do an excellent job, and we are most grateful to them. However, Vernon residents need to start getting the facts for themselves and not listen to people who attempt to deceive for political gain. It seems there is an illness currently rampant in our community. It is called “Acute Intentional Deceptionitus,” and it is striking and spreading very quickly and fiercely.

Shame on you, Mr. Borstad, I believe that you, a presumably respected member of our community, are intentionally attempting to deceive the public.
