Cedar Mountain students honor veterans

United in gratitude and respect, the students of Cedar Mountain Primary School participated in a variety of activities in honor of Veterans Day.

During the weeks preceding the holiday, all grade levels were encouraged to create thank you cards for the United States veterans. Hundreds of cards were turned in and then mailed out to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center of East Orange, N.J., as well as to the local Vernon VFW.

Cedar Mountain Primary School then held its annual Literacy Night on Monday, Nov. 9, in the school gymnasium. Students, parents and teachers were joined by four honorary veterans of the community for an evening of craft-making and story time, all accented with a patriotic theme. Sgt. First Class Cova-Gomez, Staff Sgt. Heather Zweiback and WWII veteran Bradford Lethbridge, Sr. were the guest readers of the night, along with Cedar Mountain’s very own veteran, third-grade teacher Elizabeth Norman.

The students listened attentively to the stories shared by the veterans and then presented them with their own packets of cards—thanking the veterans for their service, not just on Veterans Day but for the pride that they bring to our country each and every day.
