The Vernon Senior Center staff welcomed a group of Vernon Township High School freshman for an outstanding event they planned on Nov. 6.

The show was themed "I Love My Calendar Girls" and featured both high school and senior citizen models. The day was complete with delicious homemade sweet treats for dessert that the volunteers also provided, knowing our senior citizens love goodies.

Haley Beauparlant presented Director of Community Affairs of Vernon Township, Missi Wiedbrauk, with the idea over the summer.

"I couldn't believe how pro-active Haley was, and knowing the seniors love when students visit, it was an exciting endeavor," Wiedbrauk shared. "Haley and her mom, Julie Bush, met with me several times and through brainstorming and a lot of time and effort, the eventual fashion show was a rewarding day for the students and the seniors."

Friday, Nov. 6, was the big day, and the students arrived early in the morning to spend the day with the seniors. They attended an exercise class with them, entertained them with fashion bingo, served the crowd of 60 lunch and then began preparing for the show. The girls made fashion pumpkins and put together gift baskets as giveaway items.

The participants included: Haley Beauparlant, Tea Brich, Samantha Dulmer, Aleksandra Dombrowski, Briana Garcia, Blake Harrsch, Jodi Jose, Madeline Labance, Madelynn Leggour, and Reana Thomas.

"We really can't thank this group enough," Wiedrauk said. "All of the time that went into this event was obvious, and seeing the seniors laugh and participate, and walk away with fun gifts made for a great day. When the youth and seniors interact it's mutually beneficial and raises everyone's spirits. The seniors are already asking when the kids can come back with a Spring fashion show."
