Vernon, police agree to 4-year deal

The Vernon Township Policeman's Benevolent Association Local 285 has agreed to a four-year contract with the township, the union announced this week.

According to a news release, negotiations have been taking place over the last 6 months and the the new deal will begin Jan. 1, 2016. It will call for 1 percent increases every year Polce also will have access to less expensive health care options, which the union says will benefit both the employees and the townshiop.

Union officials said in the release they believe the contract will not place an unfair burden on the Vernon Township taxpayers.
