Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey will participate in Digital Cookie 2.0, the latest update to the iconic Girl Scout Cookie Program.

For the first time in 2015, Girl Scouts were able to sell cookies via website or a mobile app.

Local girls will be participating in Digital Cookie 2.0, a more robust, hands-on and entertaining learning experience that includes an enhanced cookie website and new mobile sales technology.

Designed with input from girls, Digital Cooke introduces girls to important new skills about running an e-commerce business, digital marketing, online money management, and customer management — all in a safe environment.

The mobile app will expand girls’ ability to take the sale on the go. Using handheld devices like smart phones or tablets, girls can take orders and complete cookie sales using digital order forms that allow for direct shipping to customers.

“Digital Cookie changed the Girl Scout Cookie-selling experience and gave girls an opportunity to learn the skills that will drive our future economy,” said Betty Garger, chief executive officer and president of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey. “With the enhancements this year, girls will be able to learn even more skills in e-commerce they simply couldn’t learn anywhere else.”

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey will start initial order taking on Jan. 16 and continue through Feb. 7. Seven varieties of cookies are being sold at $4 a box, including Thin Mints, DoSiDos, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Samoas, Savannah Smiles and Rah Rah Raisins, an oatmeal raising cookie. Gluten-free “Toffee-tastic” cookies will sell for $5 per box, due to higher production costs.

For more information about the cookie sale or to find a troop selling cookies, visit www.gsnnj.org, or call the nearest service center.
