Polish Philharmonic to play in Morristown

MORRISTOWN — Mayo Performing Arts Center presents the Polish Baltic Philharmonic of Gdansk, Boguslaw Dawidow, principal guest conductor, on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m.

Tickets will cost $29-$59.
The program includes: Chopin's Piano Concert No. 2 in F Minor, Op 21 featuring soloist Marcin Koziak; Rimsky Korsakov's Scheherazade Symphonic Suite, Op 35; Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture in B Minor.

Founded in 1945 on the heels of postwar Polish independence, The Polish Baltic Philharmonic is the largest music institution in northern Poland. The Philharmonic organizes symphonic concerts, recitals, and chamber music soirées performed by the most prominent Polish musicians as well as by many world-famous artists.

Internationally renowned for his musical knowledge, immense enthusiasm, and extraordinarily charismatic stage presence, Maestro Boguslaw Dawidow is a "conductor of a great stature, musically speaking, with a clear beat and marvelous rapport with the Orchestra. produced a truly magnificent Viennese sound. with romance and humor in hand."

Maestro Boguslaw Dawidow served as the general and music director of the National Philharmonic of Poland from his appointment in September 1999 until 2012. Maestro Dawidow was highly involved in forming the artistic shape and raising the international stature of the National Philharmonic in his capacities as both Music Director and General Director of the Philharmonic.

Pianist Marcin Koziak made his debut at age 11, and has since gone on to perform with international orchestras such as Chinese National Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra, Lodz Philharmonic Orchestra, Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus, and Beethoven Academy Orchestra. He is a laureate of many international piano competitions; the most significant are: 1st prize at the 2nd International Chopin Competition for Young Pianists in Budapest (2006), 2nd prize and three additional prizes at the 7th International Competition for Young Pianists "Arthur Rubinstein in memoriam" in Bydgoszcz (Poland, 2007) and third prize at the 10th Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition (United Kingdom, 2014).
