    Lewis David Kansas, 74 years old, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016. Born to Abraham and Zelda Kansas in Brooklyn, N.Y, he lived in New York City and then Weehawken, N.J., before moving to the Cliffwood Lake section of Vernon Twp., N.J., 38 years ago.

    Lewis served with the United States Merchant Marines during the Vietnam War and has worked as a chemist for Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton, NJ for many years. Lewis was a doting grandfather, a cigar aficionado, enjoyed surfing the internet, going to New York City, eating Indian food and sweets and was an avid reader and dog lover.

    Lewis is the beloved husband for 43 years of Carol Kansas(nee Nelson) of Cliffwood Lake, NJ. Devoted father of William David Kansas and his wife, Tracy of Vernon Twp., N.J., and John Albert Kansas of Cliffwood Lake, N.J. Loving grandfather of Carolynn Kansas. Dear brother of Ethel Sweed of La Jolla, Calif.

    The family will receive their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin, NJ on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, from 2-4 & 7-8:30 p.m. Funeral service will commence at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation is private.
