Supplies for Soldiers received its non-profit status that enables it to proceed with collection of food and necessities to distribute to United States military men and women as well as veterans on April 8.
While deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan, Mark’s wife, Nancy noted the lack of basic necessities in the post exchange (PX). While there, and in her spare time, she coordinated the collection of supplies to create more than 1,400 care bags for the local troops.
“When Nancy returned to the states, and, after hearing some of the stories, I had to create a way to keep our soldiers supplied with what they need,” said Wolfe. “The outpouring of support has already shown us that these efforts are necessary.”
Supplies for Soldiers will use collection drives at local businesses with collection boxes and lists of suggested items to donate. Also, Supplies for Soldiers will hold collection drives at local participating supermarkets. There you will find 4S volunteers who provide lists for shoppers to refer and organize the items donated.
“We are also looking for ‘Corporate Partners’ who understand our mission and want to work with us in long-term support of our cause” said Wolfe about the plans for Supplies for Soldiers.
In addition to the basic necessities for soldiers, hygiene items and snack foods, Supplies for Soldiers has had individual requests for entertainment and morale raising items.
“As new outposts are opened; they need off-duty distractions such as game systems or video systems for the troops to use to decompress” Wolfe said. “We hope that, as the word gets out, retailers open their doors and hearts to us and allow us to do collection drives. We also are accepting financial contributions to offset the costs for shipping and packaging supplies.”
