Retired Colonel Martin J. Finn USAR, 84 passed away, in Delray Beach, Fla. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. Martin was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on Sept. 20, 1931, to the late Martin J. and Bridie (nee O’Dowd) Finn. Martin was a resident of Maywood for 30 years before moving to Wantage.
Martin was a dedicated soldier retiring after 43 years with the United States Army Reserves and New York National Guard. Martin received his Bachelor degree at Dominican College and his Masters degree in Fairleigh Dickinson University. Martin was a Systems Analyst for Chiquita Brands retiring in 1991. Martin was a member of the American Legion Post 213 and was a Member of Knights of Columbus. He enthusiastically played golf and tennis.
Martin was predeceased by his first wife, Loretta, in 1996 and a granddaughter Michelle Kirchner in 2001.
Martin is survived by his wife Phyllis (nee Beal) Finn, and his children, Ellen Kirchner (Husband) Roger of Highland Lakes, Barbara Visconti of Glenwood, Kathryn Meyer (Husband Bob) of Highland Lakes, Margaret Dehn (husband Bill) of Vernon, and Martin J. Finn III of Highland Lakes, and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan and Devin Kirchner, Loretta Visconti, Brandon and Sara Meyer, Billy Dehn (wife Jess), Greg and Troy Dehn and Ryley Finn. Martin is the brother of John Finn (wife Maureen) of Ballston Lake, N.Y.
Relatives and friends will be received on Monday April 25, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home 241 Rt. 94 Vernon, NJ (GPS use 1 Vanderhoof Court). All will gather at the funeral home on Tuesday April 26, at 9 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Service at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church Highland Lakes, NJ, interment to follow with Military Honors at Glenwood Cemetery.
