Something’s fishy in Vernon

There were about 100 trout to be caught courtesy of Vernon’s Double “V” Rod & Gun Club as dozens of local children and their folks and grand-folks came out for this year’s annual Vernon PAL Fishing Derby on Saturday.
The event was held at the Firemen’s Pavilion Pond, next the Vernon Fire Department on Route 515. •
Two sessions of fishing, Grades K-2 and 3-6 allowed the youngsters the chance to catch some of the trout, a lot of sunfish, and even a huge carp.
Lots of bait and tackle, prizes, and T-shirts were donated by Mountain Mike’s Sport Shop located on Old Rudetown Road in McAfee. To help the trout better adjust to the pond, weeds were removed from the pond before it was stocked. The maximum age for fishing at the pond is 16.
