Freeholders make April proclamations

At a recent meeting, the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders presented proclamations to county residents.
Three proclamations recognized individuals attaining the rank of Eagle Scout: Joseph DeVito, Jonathan Iannuzzi, and Zachary Kerwin Kayal.
Freeholder Richard Vohden presented the freeholder proclamation recognizing April as “Sexual Assault Awareness Month” to Gwen Federico, associate director of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Intervention Services.
Freeholder Phillip R. Crabb presented the proclamation designating April as “Child Abuse Prevention Month.”
Freeholder Deputy Director Carl Lazzaro presented the proclamation designating April 10-16 as “Volunteer Appreciation Week,” along with the director of Senior Services of Sussex County Lorraine Hentz and Administrator of Department of Human Services Sarah Balzano, to Herman Terpstra, vice commander American Legion and Community Advisory Board member, Dolores and Lou Avenatti, community Advisory Board members, and Denise Minimi, Chair of Advisory Board and Vice President SEQUAL.
Freeholder Director George F. Graham presented the proclamation designating April as “Autism Awareness Month” to Larry Bono and Renee Riley. Bono said he has learned so much from his 24-year-old son who has Autism.
Freeholder Jonathan M. Rose presented the proclamation designating April 15 as being “Wear Purple Day,” or “Alcohol Awareness” to the Municipal Alliance Coordinator for Sussex County Nick Loizzi and representatives from Alcohol Awareness Alliances: Deb Danielson and Silvia Petillo. Rose said the amethyst stems from a Greek word meaning without drunkenness.
During public comment, Herman Terpstra asked meeting attendees to volunteer taking Veterans from the county to clinics in the: Bronx, Yonkers, and Castle Point.
Vohden announced the Kosa Veteran Support Center opened in Franklin on April 6. He also said U.S. Rep. Scott Garett and Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen are working with the Department of Veterans Affairs to open a medical outpatients clinic in the county; and “As Herman just mentioned, the Veterans are driving a lot of miles to visit these clinics.”
