An Eclectic Evening of the Arts

Maybe it’s the scenic views and abundance of wildlife, or maybe it’s something in the air, but there seems to be quite a few artists living in the private lake community of Highland Lakes.
For years, this community has held an annual art show, which, because of its quality and congeniality, has become an established artistic tradition in Sussex County. As an offshoot of this event and “to build up our creative community even more and to offer a chance for artists to share original creations with others for encouragement and critique” the Highland Lakes Artists Group was formed.
The group welcomes artists working in all creative genres, who are older than 18, and a member of the Highland Lakes Country Club and Community Association.
An impressive display of this group’s paintings, photographs, fiber artworks, collages, jewelry, and works in other creative mediums, were presented to the general public last Friday evening at “An Eclectic Evening of the Arts,” which was held in the Lake Room.
Guests had already started to arrive before the opening time of 7 p.m., with an overall attendance of about 100 people before the 10 p.m. closing. An hourlong performance by the Vernon Township High School Chamber Orchestra was followed by an Open Mic until closing. The audience was a diverse crowd of artists, patrons, musicians, singers, old, and young — indeed an eclectic mix, and, hopefully, participants in a new artistic tradition in Sussex County.
