NEWTON — Tri-State Actors Theater will hold this summer's Theater Day Camp for children, ages 6-12, Monday, June 27, through Friday, July 1, at The SpringBoard Shoppes, 145 Spring St., Newton. The Camp offers an introduction to understanding the art of theater through the pure fun of playing together and learning about the stage, acting, puppetry and other hands-on activities all put together for children.
Tri-State’s Summer Theater Camp, for children ages 6-12, will be under the instruction of Patricia Meacham. A long-time educator and theater professional, Meacham has worked with children in theater and education for over twenty-five years and has guided youngsters in many acting and puppetry workshops in Sussex County. She has served as TAT’s managing director since 1988. Summer classes will be held Monday, June 27, through Friday, July 1, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The classes will focus on creative dramatics and theater games. All supplies and materials are included in the camp fee. Children will need to bring their own snack or lunch and water or juice each day. There will be a brief presentation by the campers for their parents and family on the final day of camp.
Advance registration is required. The class registration fee for the week’s camp is $200. Payment may be made by check, money order or credit card. For more information or to register, please contact Tri-State at 973 383-0510 or email tristateactorstheater@centurylink.net. Visit them on the web at www.tristateactorstheater.org.
There are many important skills that aspiring actors can learn through acting classes that will help to be creative, both mentally and physically. The Camp will teach a variety of skills and traits — confidence, public speaking, teamwork, poise, and communication — that will benefit students — from children to adults — in countless other parts of their lives.
