Susan and Richard Sisti of Catalpa Ridge Farm are pleased to announce they will be holding their 14th Annual Heirloom Tomato & Veggie Plant Sale Memorial Day Weekend at The Sussex Farmers Market at the Fairgrounds.
This is the 2nd year at the farm's new location for the sale. The plants will be set up in the Farmers Market Building on the fairgrounds (in the red barn) 37 Plains Road Augusta. The sale will be held on Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.
There will be a large variety of heirloom tomato plants offered as well as a variety of Heritage Hybrid varieties, the most famous of which is the Ramapo Tomato. This variety was known as the “true Jersey tomato” 30 years ago and has not been commercially available for years. This will be our eighth year growing the very popular Ramapo tomato and we have received great feedback.
There will also be a selection of herb, eggplant, squash, cucumber, onions, artichokes and pepper plants in addition to the tomato transplants. These are grown by Susan and Richard Sisti and, as of this time, they have more than 80 different varieties of heirloom tomato plants growing to be offered at the sale on May 28 and 29.
Some old-standby varieties such as Pink & Yellow Brandywine, Rutger's and Yellow Pear will continue to be offered. Many new varieties have been added this year, such as Velvet Red, Ukrainian Purple, Red Rose and Brandy Masters just to name a few.
Preorders are encouraged but not necessary. Preorders will be accepted up to May 24 to be picked up during the day of the sale. This way you are assured your favorite variety as many popular varieties may be sold out early. Anyone who wishes to see the current varieties that will be available are welcome to visit: www.jerseygrown.com for a complete listing and the ability to order online.
