Vernon Township High School Art Teacher James La Bar teams up with student Nick Cerrato, who has Cerebral Palsy, to run the pottery wheel.
Cerrato operated the foot pedal while La Bar molded the clay with his hands. When they went out of sync, Mr. LaBar ended up covered in flying clay. Cerrato speaks to his fellow students about his Cerebral Palsy each year and regularly tries to outwit the restraints of his body by skateboarding, going in the woods and going in the ocean. He is trying to get a walker company to make a walker with off-road wheels.
VTHS art teachers have consistently been inventive to help Nick achieve his art goals. He paints a lot with his feet, but they have also designed a helmet with a paint brush that Nick can use to paint with the movements of his head.
