The Criminal Justice classes from Vernon Township High School visited The Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility as well as the Sussex County Courthouse recently.
Kelsey Falkowski, who teaches Criminal Justice, arranged for his students to talk with correction officers concerning the demands, stresses, and hazards of their profession.
The corrections officers generously answered students’ questions about the routine, meals and daily habits of inmates, and gave them a tour and overview of the facility. Many of the students are considering a career somewhere in the criminal justice system.
Students also visited the Sussex County Courthouse (which is in the background of the photo), and sat in on a court sentencing. The judge kindly answered students’ questions pertaining to the types of cases he hears, as well as if he ever met Judge Judy.
Many of them were moved by what they saw, saying it was different than what they see on television.
