Changes coming to Cornerstone Playhouse

Changes are brewing at the Cornerstone Playhouse in Sussex.
In May, the theatre kicked off its lineup with Y-NOT, a tribute to Tony award winning musicals across the ages. What follows next? A summer of fun and well-known shows for audiences young and old to enjoy. This June, Conerstone will present “Guys and Dolls”. The show premiered on Broadway in 1950, and won the Tony for Best Musical. It was made even more famous when it was brought to the Silver Screen in 1955, starring none other than N.J. native Frank Sinatra.
Cornerstone Playhouse, which boasts local talent in all their shows, stars Chris Kolwicz in the role of Sky Masterson, who Sinatra played, Laure Mantia as his girlfriend Miss Adelaide, and stars Tim Mullally as Nathan Detroit and Sarah Byrnes as Sgt. Sarah Brown. The show is directed by Janine Byrnes, who is a returning director/performer to Cornerstone.
Guys and Dolls runs for two weekends — June 10-12 and June 17-19 — with Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday shows at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 each, and the theatre recommends you purchase ahead of time, as seating is limited.
A new show on the horizon isn’t the only change for Cornerstone. Physical changes have been in the works as well. Thanks to the hard work of the Sussex Borough Department of Public Works, the theatre’s upper level parking lot is donned with new brighter lighting. The lights, thanks to the theatre, are on from dusk till dawn, to provide a safer environment for the theatres patrons. And with the volunteer work of local collsege students and long-time theatre members, the inside of the theatre itself has gained hours of cleanup, a redesigned box office area, and a new coat of paint for the stage floor and walls.
Cornerstone also has a new website, and online ticket sales. Their website, www.CornerstoneTheatreNJ.com hosts information about auditions, tickets, and more. Working with Brown Paper tickets allows them to utilize reserve seating as well. For more information about the theatre, this Summer’s line up of shows, auditions and more, visit their website.
