Recently, volunteers at Lounsberry Hollow Middle School located in Vernon were honored with an appreciation brunch held in the school library.
Continuing the tradition of a themed brunch, this year’s guests were invited to enjoy a “Seussical” celebration. This year found chairwoman Keri Frawley as a Truffula Tree and Barbara Monschauer as Green Egg with Ham (sadly the whereabouts of the other egg are currently unknown!)
Guests were entertained by a small chamber ensemble led by Miss R. Whitty, and the Lounsberry Hollow Jazz Band under the direction of Mrs. J. Young. Rounding out the entertainment was the school’s sixth grade choir led by W. Kelter.
All these talented groups delighted the assembled volunteers. Guests received a certificate honoring their work in the school and a monetary donation was made to Harvest House, a local community food program in honor of the volunteers.
Also included in the morning’s festivities was a Dr. Seuss themed trivia game, and an array of food including quiche, salads, chicken parmesan and other delicious entrees, many of which had been given Dr. Seuss themed names such as The Grinch’s Roast Beast, Fruits from the Truffula Tree, and of course green deviled eggs! The event was organized by a committee from the school and donations came from the faculty and staff.
Several retired staff members of Lounsberry Hollow have returned to help students during the year and made these comments.
Mrs. Monschauer, committee chairwoman said, “Our volunteers are one of the most important resources we have. Without their time and generosity our students would not have so many engaging activities such as Colonial Day and Field Day.
