Herbert M. Hill, 75, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Care One in Wayne, N.J. Herbert was born on Oct. 11, 1940, to Herbert and Mary (nee Todd) Hill, in Teaneck, he grew up in and loved being a part of Leonia and having many close friends. He spent his summers at Lake Wallkill in Sussex. He moved to Demarest with his wife, Norah, in 1978. In 2008, they became full time residents of Lake Wallkill in Sussex.
Herbert was a self-employed entrepreneur for cashier and cash register sales, and was a bus driver for school trips and athletic groups throughout the Bergen and Sussex county areas. Herbert was a volunteer firemen for the Demarest Fire Department and was a member of the Demarest Exempt Firemen, and a member of the Sussex Elks, an avid Lionel Train collector, he appreciated old cars and a member of the AMCRC, and a Friend of High Point State Park, and the Wallkill River NWR, and a life time member of the Lake Wallkill Association.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife Norah (nee Thiele) Hill, and his son, Brian Hill. He is survived by his half sister, Patricia Haywood of California, having many fond memories spending summers at Lake Wallkill. He also has a very close relative Ron Pumelia of Brooklyn, N.Y. Herb was very saddened by the recent death of Jackie Pumelia, Ron’ wife. He enjoyed being called “Uncle Herb” by many nieces and nephews on his wife’s side.
Relatives and friends will be received on Friday July 1, from 5-8 p.m. at the Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home 241 Rt. 94, Vernon, NJ (GPS use 1 Vanderhoof Court). Sussex Elks service Friday evening. All are invited to attend graveside services on Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at the Neshanic Cemetery 688 Amwell Rd., Neshanic, N.J.
