Sussex Borough received the approval of a $360,000 Water/Sewer projects grant from the United States Department of Agriculture and Rural Utilities Services.
The grant is in connection with a $200,000 contribution from Sussex Borough and a $240,000 loan, at a 2.25 percent interest rate with USDA and RUS. The funds from the borough and loan must be used before the grant funding can be utilized.
The total amount of the contribution, loan, and grant is $800,000. The contribution, loan, and grant will be used to replace the individual water meters and repair areas of the sewer force main along Route 23. The projects must be completed, and the funds dispensed within five years.
Steve Welsh of Bruno Associates submitted the application, along with compiled information from the borough's professionals and office staff.
Mayor Katherine Little said the positive result was obtained because everyone worked together, often with very tight deadlines.
She also said this is a big plus for moving forward with improving the Borough's water and sewer utilities.
