VERNON — During the 2015-16 school year, Mrs. Denise Docherty’s first-grade art students from Walnut Ridge Primary School created drawings from their imaginations in response to a story and song about monsters. Some of Mrs. Sarah Ulrich’s students at Rolling Hills School also created unique monster drawings. Vernon Township High School art teachers Ms. Patricia Soriano-Bunger, Mr. James LaBar and Mr. Douglas Miller distributed the primary school monster pictures to their drawing and painting, sculpture, illustration and design, computer graphics and art major students. The high school artists used the primary students’ monsters as inspiration and, with their advanced skills, completed sophisticated artworks reflecting the young artists’ imaginary creatures.
Many of these pairs of monsters were on display at Artstanding, Vernon school district’s annual celebration of the arts. Several pairs of monsters created by Mrs. Docherty’s and Ms. Soriano-Bunger’s students are now on display at the Dorothy Henry branch of the public library and will remain there through most of July. Pictured is a pair of monsters created by first grade artist Alanna Riley and high school artist Brandon Capriglione. Other artists featured in the library display are Casey Costa, Gia DiRe, Nora Doonan, Brady Flannery, Miranda Marzorati, Zachary Parrasch, Christopher Perrotta, Ayden Schmid, Shannon Scully, Callie Stein, Tiffany Viera and Olivia Visaggio.
