From food to fun, Vernon to celebrate on Main Street this weekend

    — The Vernon Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to “Vernon's Second Annual Main Street Fair,” which takes place Saturday, July 16, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
    So far, about 18 vendors and organizations will present their wares and information along Main Street in Vernon: Healthy Thymes Natural Market, Vernon Coalition, Lakeland Pool & Spa, Smokey's, George Inn, Vernon Valley Karate, Christ Community Church, Straus News, Lakeland Bank, The Scoop Ice Cream Parlor, 31 Bags, Newmark Associates, Mount Vernon Farms, Vernon Chamber of Commerce, Women's Club, Vernon Historical Society, Highland Flowers and Gifts and Home on the Mountain.
    Healthy Thymes Natural Market will highlight organic, Non-GMO, fair trade, healthy food, including fruit cups, chilled soups, specialty ice teas and coffee, drinks, Kombucha, a pro-biotic, fermented tea from Vermont, baked goods with vegan options, vegetable trays with organic dips and hummuses, their very own light, airy kale chips, and healthy snacks for kids, including fruit leather and candy, without chemicals, but healthy sweeteners.
    Lakeland Pool and Spa will show a “Big Green Egg,” the “ultimate cooking experience,” which grills, smokes, and bakes.
    Smokey's will serve pulled pork sliders, with tender pork and delicious sauce. They nwill also bring classic sausage and peppers plus cold beverages.
    George Inn will highlight their barbecued ribs, with their very own special sauce; Greek pasta, including feta cheese, penne pasta, fresh garlic with extra virgin olive oil, mushrooms, and baby spinach; pork and vegetable spring rolls, with a sweet Chile sauce; and Gazpacho Soup.
    The Scoop Ice Cream Parlor will sell homemade ice cream, featuring “Cookie Monster,” a vanilla based ice cream, dyed blue, with chocolate chip and Oreo cookies; pretzels, popcorn, cotton candy, root-beer floats, hot dogs, plus nachos and cheese.
    Mount Vernon Farms will show some of their favorite trees: firs and spruce. They will also showcase “Stella De Oro,” ever blooming golden yellow day lilies, which grow well in the area.
    Highland Flowers and Gifts plus Home on the Mountain will feature local sunflowers and farm bouquets, boutique item summer cover-ups, scarves, American made furniture and décor.
    “Gloria and Mike,” along with acoustic guitar, will provide pleasing music to attendees while shopping and learning.
    President Elmer Platz, of the Vernon Chamber, encourages the Vernon Township community to come, see, and discover local vendors, nestled among the nearby mountain ranges of Vernon.
    Platz also said, “This is only the second commercial event on Main Street,” and last minute vendors are still welcome.
