    To the editor:
The Sheriffs’ Association of New Jersey is deeply saddened and concerned about the events that have occurred this week. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the victims, their families, loved ones and colleagues. We will continue to pray for all of those involved and the speedy recovery of the injured.
This is a difficult time in our profession as we work to build and retain trust within our communities, but we must ensure that violence has no place in our society. Last night’s attack on Dallas police officers during what started as a peaceful protest, is another example of the dangers our officers face on a daily basis. The calculated killing of those who have dedicated their lives to serve and protect our communities cannot continue. We must come together as a nation and reflect on this senseless loss of lives.
We know the vast majority of the public supports our officers and we continue to be humbled and honored by that support. We will always be here to serve and protect our communities and we ask that everyone continue to pray for those affected by the events this week.

President, Sheriffs' Association of New Jersey
