    — Herbert E. Sandford, age 79, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016, at Newton Memorial Hospital.
    Born in Newark to the late Elmer and Mary (King) Sandford, Mr. Sandford lived in Lincoln Park before moving to Sussex County in 2000. He had served in the United States Army. Mr. Sandford had been the owner and operator of Sandford Service in South Orange and retired when he was 65. He was a master builder of remote control planes and belonged to the Flying Hawks R-C Club and the Wawayanda Flying Club.
    He was predeceased by his wife, Helen B. Sandford, in 2009. Mr. Sandford is survived by daughter, Susan Boyle, and her husband Harry of Wantage; his son, Larry Sandford of Oak Ridge; his brother, Wayne R. Sandford and his wife Deborah of Madison; his grandchildren, Lauren Dexter, Kate Field, and Sean and Nicholas Boyle; his two great grandchildren, Max and Sydney; and his companion, Carol Plumaker of Wantage. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank St. (Route 23), Sussex. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Monica R.C. Church, 33 Unionville Avenue, Sussex.
    Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Friday, July 15, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.pinkelfuneralhome.com.
